After my recent trip to DC and another visit to the National Mall there was something I saw that was more meaningful to me than in years past. The war memorials. Not that their significance didn’t mean anything to me before, but this time was different. Due to my involvement in a very special project over the past several months, my eyes and heart have opened to veterans of war and their need for healing. For me, yoga has brought me this compassion. Side note: This is what yoga can do. It can open your eyes and heart to things unfamiliar at times that are unexpected. Thus, I feel it is only appropriate to introduce to you..drumroll, Prajjali. Prajjali has been a work in progress and under wraps for awhile. So, please read up. Take it in. This is a concept created by two friends I have made through the yoga community who both have the biggest hearts! Elissa Lappostato and Terri Brown.
The below captures the essence of Prajjjali and is copied from another WordPress yogi, with a blog called, Peace Love and Guacamole. Cool name right? Here is the link to the blog: http://www.peaceloveguacamole.blogspot.com
“Yoga for all, we all are one!” is the motto I have for all my classes, so naturally when I heard about the launch of The Prajjali Project, I wanted to show my loving support. Can you imagine the opportunity to use one all-access pass to attend various types of yoga classes with a variety of teachers at all different studios across the country? Well, that’s their vision. Not only do they want their efforts to help yogis to try new things and expand their minds and practices, but they are a fundraising effort to offer veterans the healing benefits of yoga.
The word “Prajjali” means an “offering or receiving” and with their “buy a pass, fund a class” structure, they are helping to give back to those who put themselves out there mentally and physically to protect and preserve our happiness and freedom. I’m sure along the way all yogis have heard the mantra “Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu… May all beings everywhere be happy and free from suffering, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.” The Prajjali Project is your opportunity to be a peaceful warrior and do just that.
How it works: Purchase a Prajjali Pass (available exclusively through their website) for between 5 and 600 classes that will be honored at a number of participating studios currently spanning from New Jersey to Brooklyn. Remember, the more classes you buy, the more people you help both directly AND indirectly. Every 10-class pass sold will fund one yoga class for a veteran, so that means if you buy 600 classes, not only will you be in fabulous shape in both body and mind, but you will be sponsoring a tremendous opportunity for those who have served our country to experience the healing benefits of yoga! Can you imagine how much peace you could promote by getting your yogi friends to do the same!? How many lives you could touch!? Think about it!
The Prajjali Project is currently affiliated with Yoga for Vets NYC and Achilles International and its official non-profit, fundraising launch party is taking place TOMORROW NIGHT (May 20th) at the Waterside Restaurant and Catering (right outside NYC) in North Bergen, New Jersey. Dinner, drinks, and festivities begin at 7:30PM and run until 11:30PM. There will also be a silent auction.
